This Privacy Policy describes how Ledger Book ("the App", "we", "our") handles your information when you use the App on your Android device. Please read it carefully.

1. Overview

Ledger Book is a personal finance ledger app. It is designed with a local-first philosophy: your financial data is stored on your device and is never sent to our servers. However, the App integrates third-party services (Google Drive, Google AdMob) that may collect certain data as described below.

2. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The following data is stored exclusively in a local SQLite database (ledgerbook.db) on your device. It is never transmitted to our servers.

Data Type Details
Account information Account name, email address (optional), mobile number, description, creation/modification timestamps
Transaction records Transaction amount, credit/debit type, running balance, transaction date, note, creation/modification timestamps
Transaction images File paths to images you attach to transactions (images stored in local app-specific storage)
Reminder/notification data Due-date reminders linked to transactions (title, scheduled date/time)
App settings Selected language, currency, PIN hash (bcrypt/hashed — never plain text), color preferences, last backup timestamps, ad-hide expiry
Currency list Static reference data (26 world currencies) — no personal data

All local data is stored in your device's internal storage and is only accessible by this App. It is not shared with us or any third party except through the optional Google Drive Backup feature described below.

3. Optional: Google Drive Backup & Restore

You may choose to back up your data to your personal Google Drive account. This feature is entirely optional and requires you to sign in with your Google Account.

3.1 What is uploaded

3.2 Where it is stored

Backup files are stored in your own Google Drive account in the hidden appDataFolder space (a private, app-specific folder that is not visible in your Google Drive UI and cannot be accessed by other apps or users). We do not have access to your Google Drive data.

3.3 Google Drive OAuth Scopes used

Scope Purpose
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.appdata Read/write to the hidden app-specific folder in your Drive

3.4 Google Sign-In data

When you sign in with Google for backup, Google provides us with your Google Account email address solely to display it in the backup screen (e.g., "Signed in as user@example.com"). This email is not stored, transmitted to our servers, or shared with any third party.

3.5 Deleting Google Drive backups

You can delete individual Google Drive backups from within the App: Settings → Cloud Restore → Delete backup. You can also manage or delete all App data from Google Drive at: myaccount.google.com/permissions.

3.6 Google's privacy policy

Google's handling of your Google Account data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

4. Advertising (Google AdMob)

The App displays advertisements provided by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect and process data to serve personalized or non-personalized ads depending on your consent.

4.1 Ad types used

4.2 Data AdMob may collect

The App uses Google AdMob to display advertisements. The Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect and share information such as IP address, advertising/device identifiers, app interactions, ad interactions, and diagnostic information for advertising, analytics, and fraud prevention.

We do not control or have direct access to the data collected by AdMob. AdMob's data use is governed by Google's Privacy Policy and Google AdMob policies.

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or another region where consent is required, the App may use Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to request your advertising consent before requesting personalized ads. You may withdraw or change consent through the available consent/privacy options in the App or through your device/Google account settings.

4.4 Opting out / Hiding Ads

You can temporarily disable ads for 8 hours by watching a rewarded ad (Settings → Hide Ads). You can also opt out of personalized advertising on your device via: Google Settings → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalization.

5. Notifications

The App uses local notifications (not push notifications through a server) to remind you of payment due dates you set yourself. Notification data stays entirely on your device. No notification content is sent to our servers or any third party.

Required Android permissions for notifications:

6. Contact Selection & Privacy

To make adding accounts easier, you may choose to import a contact's name and phone number from your device's address book. We prioritize your privacy and handle contact selection as follows:

7. Storage Permissions

On older Android versions, the App may request storage permissions to save or read local backup files and transaction images. On newer Android versions, the App uses app-specific storage or Android system storage/photo access where supported. These files remain on your device and are not uploaded anywhere unless you explicitly use the Google Drive Backup feature.

8. Internet Permission

INTERNET permission is used for: (1) loading advertisements via AdMob, (2) Google Drive backup/restore when you initiate it, and (3) Google Sign-In for Drive backup. The App does not transmit your financial data over the internet on its own.

9. Data We Do NOT Collect

10. Data Retention & Deletion

10.1 Local app data

All local data is retained on your device until you manually delete it or uninstall the App. To delete all local data:

  1. Go to Android Settings → Apps → Ledger Book → Storage → Clear Data, or
  2. Uninstall the App.

10.2 Google Drive backup data

Drive backup files may persist in your Google Drive appDataFolder even after uninstalling the App. To delete them:

Revoking access may stop the App from accessing your Google Drive backup data, but deletion of existing backup data should be done from within the App where the delete option is available.

11. Children's Privacy

This App is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through this App, please contact us so we can address it.

12. Security

Your local data is protected by Android's app sandboxing. The optional PIN feature stores only a hashed version of your PIN — the plain PIN is never stored. Google Drive backups are protected by your Google Account credentials and Google's own security measures.

The local SQLite database and Google Drive backup database are not end-to-end encrypted by the App unless specifically stated. They are protected by Android app sandboxing on your device and by your Google Account security when stored in Google Drive.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
